It doesn't matter if you have incredible insights that might transform your business; if you are not able to communicate your insights, you will not progress in your career. That's why Data Storytelling is incredibly important for an analyst. However, this is also something that is quite difficult to practice, so what do you do?

In this post, I will share a secret of how I practice Data Storytelling, and most importantly, how I do it regularly and without a lot of effort.

For me, the best way to improve my storytelling skills is by learning from the experts, and it is easier than you think. I follow a few YouTube channels that constantly share engaging stories, most of them supported with data.

For example, CNBC shared a story on “Why Fast-Food Companies Are Going All In On Chicken Tenders.”

I recommend you take a look at this video, but also, try to understand how the narrative works. What is the main point? How do they use data, charts, articles, and interviews to support the point they are trying to make? Reflect on how they use questions to keep you engaged. Also, check how the supporting charts were utilized. Did they have momentum? Was the information clear and did it help to move “the plot” along?

Here are two more channels that earned my subscription for their amazing storytelling:

- Vox

I love this approach for improving this skill because it is easy, and I also learn many new things along the way that ultimately help me to start with data and end with value.

Do you know of any other channels with engaging storytelling? Let me know in the comments.
